LCA@NETL
A Session by Tim Skone (Senior Environmental Engineer, U.S. Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory)
About this Session
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) uses life cycle analysis (LCA) to fulfill the NETL mission of driving innovation and delivering solutions for an environmentally sustainable future.
NETL provides LCA models, tools, and data, and analysis that can be utilized and expanded upon to inform potential R&D pathways and new and emerging technologies and to create consistent and standardized LCA approaches and benchmarks.
At NETL, LCA aims to create transparent and unbiased cradle-to-grave models in support of federal energy research decisions and to inform policy makers. Open source model development requires deep LCA expertise and industry-standard environmental assessment techniques with transparency and flexibility to model advanced technologies that could be deployed in complex and changing energy futures.
The talk will cover a range of LCA work from carbon utilization LCA guidance to decarbonization technology evaluation that supports the mission of NETL and DOE to enable environmental sustainability for all Americans.
